Frequently
asked questions
My
tiles look dull after installation, why?
This question usually is asked when the surface
appearance of the tile differs significantly from uninstalled
tiles left from the same installation. Here we could
have several explanations:
The tile may appear dull if a grout haze remains on
the surface of the tile. This often happens when the
grout is NOT thoroughly cleaned from the tile surface
immediately following installation. Since grout is a
form of cement it becomes very difficult to remove after
drying completely. This can be avoided by grouting only
manageable sections of the area and cleaning each section
well before moving to the other areas. This step is
particularly important when working with tiles with
matt or rough surfaces.
My tile retains dirt, why?
When
grout remains on the surface, it attracts and holds
dirt, thus making it impossible to restore the original
surface of the tile. Products exist in the market place
to remove grout haze.
What
do “shade” and Caliber mean and why do they
matter?
A
tile’s caliber refers to its facial dimension
and is measured by instruments on the sorting line and
by caliber manually. Uniceramic sorts their first choice
production to caliber which indicated on every first
choice box. A tile’s shade refers to the coloration
and reflectivity of a tile. Since natural materials
are used in both the body and the glaze of the tile,
and are fired at high temperatures, slight variation
in shade and caliber are normally inherent from one
production run to the next.
It is important to purchase tiles with the same caliber
and shade, if at all possible. Normally with Uniceramic
tiles, two adjacent calibers (i.e 2 & 3 or 7 &
8 ) can be used in an installation if the installer
is aware of the variation before installation is begun.
